The project suggests the bringing back of natural historic elements such as waterways, topography and tropical rainforest eco-habitats to facilitate an intimate relationship with the wilderness while creating interplay with its magnificently articulated man-made landscapes. It seeks to blur the boundaries between natural and man-made and redefine the relationship of high-dense urban development to nature. The landscape hence developed forms an archetype that intensifies the use of land through high-density housing but also serves as a productive, self-sustaining future for Singapore.
Singapore owes much of its success in the global scenario to its natural history. The abatement of natural reserves especially in Singapore’s densely populated east side is conceived as an opportunity for the former airport site and its industrialized surroundings. necessary retreat, not just for the site but for the entire city. Through the creation of a natural hybrid reserve, the project seeks to provide a high density recreational infrastructure- a necessary retreat, not just for the site but for the entire city.
