Green Zone addresses the context of the Detroit site near the University of Detroit Mercy in two ways: first, the design strategically deploys community green spaces and second, it encourages mixing demographics through unit type and location.
By deploying walkups, fourplexes, and townhouses, the neighborhood is a mix of affordable housing options for students, young professionals, and families. the townhouse-plus-carriage house typology encourages, in particular, the mixing of student and family populations. The walkups are primarily one and two-bedroom units for couples or roommates.
